What's New in ReceiptIQ AI

What changed in each release of ReceiptIQ AI, and why. Most entries began as a receipt a user sent us. The engineering detail behind the bigger ones is on the blog.

2.5.4 — October 17, 2026

A clearer free plan: 30 free AI scans. A photo, a voice entry, a bank statement or a forwarded receipt email each count once. Typing an expense in is always free, and failed scans do not count. The plans page shows how many free scans are left.
iPhone Duo. Unfolded, the app uses the sidebar layout you know from iPad; folded, the familiar tab bar.
CSV exports open correctly in Excel, accents and Japanese included.
The same numbers everywhere. This month's totals on the dashboard, charts and budget now count up to today.

2.5.2 — October 12, 2026

Now on iPad and Mac. The same app and the same purchase work on iPhone, iPad and Mac. See how they work together.
Typed-in entries no longer count toward the free 30. Entries you type in yourself are not part of the free 30 receipts any more.

2.5.0 — October 8, 2026

Scanning is more accurate. Totals, item prices, discounts and taxes are read more reliably, especially on long receipts and receipts with coupons, loyalty points or fuel.
Old receipts ask first. When a receipt's date is more than three months ago, ReceiptIQ AI asks which date to use instead of guessing.
Your three most recent receipts on Home, so the receipt you just scanned is always one tap away.
What you bought, complete. Food & Grocery and Household Supplies now sort every item in a long month; earlier, lists with many different products could stop part-way with "Not sorted yet".
The calendar speaks your language. Weeks start on Monday where that is the custom, weekday names and month labels follow your language (2026年9月, 日一二 …), and amounts are written the way the rest of the app writes them (158 €, not €158).
Currency names in your language in Settings, and the daily-reminder offer after your first scans is gone (the reminder itself is still in Settings for anyone who wants it).

2.4.8 — October 6, 2026

Household Supplies shows what you bought. Tap it in Charts and the money splits into paper and disposables, cleaning and laundry, toiletries, kitchen and storage, and baby care, each with its share. Tap one to see the items.
The app learns your categories. Change one item's category and ReceiptIQ AI remembers it for your next scans. Settings, Categories can forget what it learned.
Foreign receipts keep every printed price exactly, and you can edit them in the receipt's own currency.
Paid plans scan up to 100 receipts a day (was 30), and the limit message tells you when scanning resumes.
A new first run. A fresh install confirms your language and home currency first; the data-and-privacy disclosure moved to Settings, About, where it is always one tap away. Family Sharing explains the Local Network permission before iOS asks for it.

2.4.7 — October 3, 2026

Fixed a crash that could happen while the home screen chart was drawn.
Food & Grocery opens filled the first time. Opening it from the home screen right after starting the app could show an empty page.
Messages follow your language. Alerts and error messages now always appear in the language you chose in the app, even when your phone uses another one.
Chilean card vouchers. A Mercado Pago voucher with a purchase and a tip (propina) is now one restaurant meal, and Chilean receipts are recognised as pesos without asking. Thanks to the user in Chile who sent us one.

2.4.6 — October 2, 2026

See what you bought. Tap Food & Grocery in Charts, or its slice on the home screen, and the money splits into meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, dairy, bread, pantry, snacks, drinks, alcohol and prepared food, each with its amount and share. Tap one to see the items. Receipts you scanned before are sorted too.
The home screen follows today's date. A month you page back to is a temporary view, with one tap back to the current month.
At a Glance says when, and how the month compares. Your highest-spending day, and this month against last month at the same point.
A day explains itself. Tap a day in the calendar to see its total, receipts and categories.
New categories: Phone & Internet, Bonus and Other Income. If you already use the app, it asks once whether to add them, and explains what changes if you do.
Chilean peso (CLP). Written the Chilean way: $12.990.
A reminder before a cancelled plan ends, three days ahead, only if notifications are already on.
Better translations in every language, including dozens of lines that still showed English.

2.4.5 — September 30, 2026

Receipt date or added date. In the receipts list, one tap switches between the receipt's own date and the day you added it, so a receipt you scanned today shows up right away, even if it is dated weeks ago. Charts and budgets stay on the receipt date.
Date ranges as numbers, on one line. The list and Spending Analysis now show the period as numbers in every language.

2.4.4 — September 29, 2026

Export items, not just receipts. Settings, Your Data, Data Export now also offers "Export Items to CSV": one row per item, and the category filter works on each item's own category. Pull the gluten-free products, the business purchases or the pharmacy items out of mixed receipts. Converted foreign receipts show the printed price next to the amount in your currency.
A simpler privacy screen the first time you open the app.
One optional question, asked once. After a scan the app asks what you mainly use it for (tax, household budget, keeping receipts or just trying). One tap, or skip; it is never asked again.
German category names from the household book. Lebensmittel & Getränke, Drogerie & Haushalt, Mobilität & Tanken, Freizeit & Unterhaltung, Heimwerken & Reparaturen and Pfand & Steuern. Your receipts keep their categories; only the names change.
Japanese: 通信費, 特別費 and こづかい join the Japanese categories, the standard 家計簿 split.

2.4.3 — September 28, 2026

See what is building up. After each scan a short banner shows what was saved and where the month stands: "Saved · 17 items / This month: 4 receipts · €73.42".
An optional daily reminder. After your first few scans the app asks once whether you would like a reminder at 8 pm to scan the day's receipts. Say no and it never asks again; turn it on or off any time in Settings, Receipts & Money.
New category: Household Supplies. Detergent, toilet paper, shampoo and other household goods get their own category instead of counting as food. It is added for everyone on update; receipts you already saved are not re-filed.
Your month can start on payday. Settings, Budgets & Recurring, "Month starts on" (any day from 1 to 28). The dashboard, budgets, charts and receipt list all follow it; day 1 works exactly as before.
Japanese: standard 家計簿 categories. In Japanese the categories now use the names a household account book uses (食費, 日用品, 交通費, 住居・光熱費 and so on). In Japan the yearly plan is half price for the first year until October 31, 2026, for new subscribers.
Smaller things. The tab bar is balanced around the + button in every language, English can be set to US, Canada, UK, Australia or New Zealand, and Settings shows the build number next to the version, which helps when you report a problem.

2.4.2 — September 26, 2026

ReceiptIQ AI now speaks 16 languages. Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Turkish and Korean join English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Japanese and Traditional Chinese: the whole app, receipt scanning in the matching language, and voice input. Settings, the dashboard and the tab bar are now fully translated in every language, German included.
New home currencies. Polish złoty, Brazilian real, Swedish krona, Danish and Norwegian krone, Swiss franc, Czech koruna and Korean won.
Receipts from these countries read right. The app knows how each country prints its total and its VAT, so a tax line is never taken for the total, and it recognises the currency from what the receipt prints.
A tidier Settings page. Your plan and the app version share one section, "3 Recent Receipts on Dashboard" moved to Receipts & Money, and the smart camera row got a shorter caption and an icon.

2.4.1 — September 24, 2026

Receipts in Korean, Thai, Arabic and Hindi are read in their own language. The app recognises the script first and reads the receipt with the matching text recognition, so store and item names come through. Korean receipts are recognised as won; Korean duty-free shops, which charge US dollars, stay in dollars.
"Which currency is this receipt in?" When a receipt prints no currency but something points abroad (a foreign phone number, script or address, your phone in another country's time zone, or amounts far too large for your home currency), the app asks once, offers its best guess, and remembers the answer for that shop. It never asks just because nothing is printed.
Both currencies, item by item. A converted receipt shows each item's printed price next to the converted one, so it can be checked against the paper. A foreign receipt whose items don't add up now says so, and that alert has a Report a Problem button.
Family Sharing works with a real App Store subscription. Joining a family could fail with error E4 for subscribers; it now checks Apple's signing certificate the way Apple's own tools do.
Rate the app when you want to. Settings, About, Rate ReceiptIQ AI. The occasional rating request is Apple's own star sheet and never appears on top of a question.

2.4.0 — September 21, 2026

Fixed: the app could close right after the welcome guide. On a brand-new install of 2.3.9, tapping "Start using ReceiptIQ AI" or "Skip" closed the app once. It opened normally the second time, but that is not a first impression anyone should get. If it happened to you, we are sorry; updating fixes it.
Family Sharing that does not get in its own way. The QR code and the camera no longer close by themselves on the first tap, the "You joined the family!" screen stays put, and a first sync with hundreds of receipt photos now runs to the end instead of being cut off. The family owner can remove a device with a visible Remove button, and on the free plan "Create Family" explains that the subscribed phone creates the family and everyone else joins free.
Receipts read right in more situations. A slightly tilted photo keeps every price on its own line, and when you pay cash the banknote is no longer mistaken for the total.

2.3.9 — September 20, 2026

A short guide the first time you open the app. Five pages, shown once, starting with the step that matters most: trim the categories to the ones you actually use before your first scan. Read it again any time from Settings, About, How to use ReceiptIQ AI.
Share a PDF receipt straight into the app. An emailed receipt or invoice in PDF form is now read like a photo of one. A password-protected PDF, or a whole statement, points you to the statement import instead of guessing.
Refunds are refunds, not income. A refund on an imported statement is recorded as a negative expense in the category of the purchase it cancels, so that category comes back down and your income stays what you earned. Any transaction's category can be corrected in the review list before saving.
Voice input in your language. Voice input now listens in the language the app is set to: English, Spanish, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Dutch, German or French.
Two receipts on one day are two receipts. Two separate purchases of the same amount at the same shop on the same day are no longer treated as one; the item lists are compared first.
Tax and tips on your reports. The PDF report and the CSV export open with the period's totals, including tax paid and tips.

2.3.8 — September 18, 2026

Import a bank statement as a PDF (Beta). The statement screen now takes the PDF your bank gives you, a photo from your library, or the camera. A PDF is read directly from the file, row by row, so every transaction comes through exactly. Card and account numbers are masked on your iPhone first, and a password-protected PDF asks for its password once — it is never saved.
A review list that explains itself. A refund is paired with the purchase it cancels, and a row that looks like something you already saved is marked. Both start unticked, so you decide. When the rows add up to the total printed on the statement, the list says so. Card payments are left out.
A new name. The app is now called ReceiptIQ AI everywhere, including on the App Store, so it is never confused with ReceiptIQ Lite, which does not scan.

2.3.7 — September 18, 2026

A Tax category. Sales tax, environment and recycling fees and refundable deposits now file themselves under a new default Tax category instead of inflating whatever they were printed under. Only new scans are affected; past months stay exactly as they were.
Yen can be your home currency. Yen used to be recognised only as a foreign currency, so a phone in Japan fell back to dollars and every yen receipt was converted. Yen is now in the currency list and detected from the phone.
Amounts, dates and budgets read correctly in every language, and every App Store language now has screenshots in its own language.

2.3.6 — September 17, 2026

Numbers you can trust. If the items on a scanned receipt still do not add up to its total after every automatic correction, the app now tells you and offers to review it, instead of saving it silently.
Changing your home currency now re-converts receipts that were scanned in another currency.
Monthly bills keep their day. A bill due on the 31st no longer drifts to the 28th after February.
Renaming or deleting a category now follows through on every receipt that used it, and family sharing between two iPhones is more reliable when both change the same receipt.

2.3.5 — September 16, 2026

French and French (Canada). The App Store listing now ships in both, alongside English, Spanish, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Dutch and German.
"Voucher detected?" When part of a receipt is paid with a voucher or store credit, the app asks once which amount to record: the full value of the goods, or only what you were actually charged. Choose the charged amount and the voucher is added as its own line, so the receipt still adds up. This matters most after a return: take the refund as store credit, spend it the same day, and the original purchase is already in your book — recording the full goods total again would count that money twice.
Clearer messages when a scan is turned down. If you hit a daily limit, use up the free tier, or catch the service during unusually heavy traffic, the app now shows the actual reason instead of a generic failure, and doesn't keep retrying quietly in the background.
Two more receipt-reading fixes. A lone quantity number printed in its own column no longer steals that row's price and shifts every item below it; a membership or ID line no longer steals an item's price.
Removed: two unfinished screens, "Web Sync" and "Financial Insights", that were never part of the app for regular users, so nothing changes for anyone.

2.3.4 — September 14, 2026

German. The whole app now works in German, with a German App Store listing (name, description, keywords).
Family Sharing finds the other phone by itself. Two family iPhones with ReceiptIQ AI open now sync within a few seconds of each other having new or changed receipts — no more pull-to-refresh or tapping "Sync Now". A small dot shows when another family device is in range.
Recurring bills and Family Sharing. A bill both family phones knew about no longer gets created twice after a sync.
Translation pass. Every Spanish, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Dutch and Canadian French screen was reviewed — hundreds of wording fixes, and for the first time the system permission prompts (camera, photos, Face ID, microphone, speech, local network) are translated instead of showing English.
Home Screen icon is now labelled "ReceiptIQ AI".

2.3.3 — September 14, 2026

Faster everywhere there is a list. The receipts list, charts, dashboard and search used to load every receipt photo whether or not it was shown. Photos now load only where they're displayed.
Fixed: editing a future-dated receipt could drop the edit; editing a receipt with "Keep Receipt Images" off could delete that receipt's photo; changing a converted receipt's currency in the edit view could convert the wrong amount; recurring bills could lose their category when the next one was created; a manual, voice or bank-statement entry that matched an existing receipt was silently dropped instead of telling you; bank-statement income rows could be stored as negative amounts; recurring bills added from Settings never fired for non-English users; cancelling a share from Photos could still import the receipt later; amount search could match the wrong item's price; voice input could crash if microphone access was denied.
Small polish: easier-to-read amounts in dark mode, comma decimals accepted in budgets and item prices.

2.3.2 — September 12, 2026

A rating prompt that never nags. It asks at most once every 30 days, only right after a receipt saved cleanly, and remembers "Don't Ask Again" for good.
Settings reorganized into five sections instead of nine, with the things you use most at the top.
Family Sharing no longer says "Syncing…" for 12 seconds on every launch. It checks quietly in the background and only shows a spinner once another family device actually answers.
The live scanner asks you to get a little closer before it captures. Measured against 18 real receipts: moving closer roughly halved the number of missed prices.
Receipts with a status flag next to the price (for example "W $8.97 G") are now read correctly.

2.3.1 — September 9–10, 2026

More accurate currency detection. A single stray character used to be able to override strong evidence elsewhere on the receipt — an ordinary English word like "TRY" or "MOP", or a symbol that looks like a currency sign, no longer gets mistaken for a foreign currency.
Taiwanese receipts printing a bare "$" are now recognised correctly, instead of being read in whatever currency the app happened to be set to.
Japanese totals: a cash-tendered amount is no longer mistaken for the tax, and receipts that print the subtotal and tax separately from the total are read correctly.
Live capture: the cropped photo now preserves the receipt's true shape near the edges of the frame, instead of shearing the image slightly.
Vietnamese dong and Indonesian rupiah receipts are now recognised.
A manual shutter press no longer inherits a jittery, out-of-date crop from a scene the camera hadn't settled on.

2.3.0 — September 8, 2026

Live receipt capture. The camera finds the receipt while you aim, turns the outline green when the paper is flat, sharp and lit, then takes and crops the photo itself. The classic camera stays available in Settings. How it was built.
Receipts in other currencies. Yen, euros, pounds, NT$ and more are recognised on the receipt, converted at that day's rate and kept with the printed amount and the rate. Budgets and charts stay in your home currency; each receipt can be viewed in either. The story behind it.
Japanese and Chinese receipts for everyone. An English or Dutch language setting used to mean Japanese and Chinese text was not read at all. It is now, whatever language the app is in.
More accurate line items on Japanese receipts: tax-included totals, quantity lines and per-item discounts.
A cleaner Settings page: nine sections instead of fourteen, your plan on one row, the things you use most at the top.

2.2.0 — September 5, 2026

Yen and NT$ receipts: items and prices finally pair up. Japanese and Taiwanese receipts print amounts without decimals (¥1,190, 483, 198TX); the scanner only recognised prices shaped like 12.34, so names and prices reached the parser as two separate lists. Measured on 1,148 real Japanese receipts: pairing went from 19% to 93%. How we test.
Comma-decimal totals. "Totaal € 54,68" is read as 54.68. Total, subtotal, tender and discount words in Dutch, Spanish, Japanese and Traditional Chinese no longer appear as purchased items.
Japanese receipt rules. Tax-included receipts no longer gain a phantom consumption-tax item; 小計 is never mistaken for the total; お預り and お釣り are read as cash tendered and change.
Receipts with comma prices are no longer rejected. "16,50" or "$ 55,00" could be refused as "not a receipt" before the scan reached the parser.
Report a scan that wasn't recognised. The "not a receipt" alert offers Report This Error, which sends the photo and recognised text to support with your consent.

2.1.9 — September 2, 2026

Share from Photos works again. Sharing a receipt photo into ReceiptIQ AI opened the app and then did nothing. Fixed.
Export by category. CSV and PDF reports can be narrowed to one expense category; the PDF header shows the period and the category.
Help & FAQ in Settings, seeded from real support questions, with Report a Problem behind it.
Ratings prompt after a few successful scans, never more than once in 60 days.

2.1.8 — August 29, 2026

Scan accuracy. Net-style markdown receipts (an already-discounted price plus a "SAVING GRAND TOTAL" summary) no longer get the discount subtracted twice. Costco instant rebates with trailing-minus amounts ("5.00-") are read as negative; a $130.70 receipt previously came back as $150.70.
Custom export period with start and end dates, for quarters, tax years or any audit window.
In-app support reporting. Report a Problem pre-fills diagnostics; every receipt has its own report button with consent to attach the photo and the parsed result.
Family pairing diagnostics. Verification errors carry a stable support code (E1–E11).

2.1.7 — August 2026

New App Store name: "ReceiptIQ AI: AI Receipt Scanner". Searching "ReceiptIQ AI" finds the app again.
Spending chart legend: top categories as colour dot and name; tap a row to highlight its slice.
Family sync at your fingertips: pull to refresh starts a quiet sync; family users get a "Last sync" pill in the top bar.
Cleaner top bar: the iCloud "Sync Off" pill is hidden unless sync is on.

2.1.6 — August 2026

Audit-ready PDF reports. One tap exports a summary with per-category breakdown, a receipts index, and every scanned receipt on its own page as proof. Built for a subscriber's audit.
The app asks about ambiguous dates. "8/9/2026" can mean Aug 9 or Sep 8. The app resolves what it can from the receipt and asks once when it truly cannot tell, then remembers the answer for that store.

2.1.0 — June 2026
