What's New in ReceiptIQ

Updated September 2026 Every version, in plain words

What changed in each release of ReceiptIQ Pro, and why. Most entries began as a receipt a user sent us. The engineering detail behind the bigger ones is on the blog.

2.3.0 — September 8, 2026

  • Live receipt capture. The camera finds the receipt while you aim, turns the outline green when the paper is flat, sharp and lit, then takes and crops the photo itself. The classic camera stays available in Settings. How it was built.
  • Receipts in other currencies. Yen, euros, pounds, NT$ and more are recognised on the receipt, converted at that day's rate and kept with the printed amount and the rate. Budgets and charts stay in your home currency; each receipt can be viewed in either. The story behind it.
  • Japanese and Chinese receipts for everyone. An English or Dutch language setting used to mean Japanese and Chinese text was not read at all. It is now, whatever language the app is in.
  • More accurate line items on Japanese receipts: tax-included totals, quantity lines and per-item discounts.
  • A cleaner Settings page: nine sections instead of fourteen, your plan on one row, the things you use most at the top.

2.2.0 — September 5, 2026

  • Yen and NT$ receipts: items and prices finally pair up. Japanese and Taiwanese receipts print amounts without decimals (¥1,190, 483, 198TX); the scanner only recognised prices shaped like 12.34, so names and prices reached the parser as two separate lists. Measured on 1,148 real Japanese receipts: pairing went from 19% to 93%. How we test.
  • Comma-decimal totals. "Totaal € 54,68" is read as 54.68. Total, subtotal, tender and discount words in Dutch, Spanish, Japanese and Traditional Chinese no longer appear as purchased items.
  • Japanese receipt rules. Tax-included receipts no longer gain a phantom consumption-tax item; 小計 is never mistaken for the total; お預り and お釣り are read as cash tendered and change.
  • Receipts with comma prices are no longer rejected. "16,50" or "$ 55,00" could be refused as "not a receipt" before the scan reached the parser.
  • Report a scan that wasn't recognised. The "not a receipt" alert offers Report This Error, which sends the photo and recognised text to support with your consent.

2.1.9 — September 2, 2026

  • Share from Photos works again. Sharing a receipt photo into ReceiptIQ opened the app and then did nothing. Fixed.
  • Export by category. CSV and PDF reports can be narrowed to one expense category; the PDF header shows the period and the category.
  • Help & FAQ in Settings, seeded from real support questions, with Report a Problem behind it.
  • Ratings prompt after a few successful scans, never more than once in 60 days.

2.1.8 — August 29, 2026

  • Scan accuracy. Net-style markdown receipts (an already-discounted price plus a "SAVING GRAND TOTAL" summary) no longer get the discount subtracted twice. Costco instant rebates with trailing-minus amounts ("5.00-") are read as negative; a $130.70 receipt previously came back as $150.70.
  • Custom export period with start and end dates, for quarters, tax years or any audit window.
  • In-app support reporting. Report a Problem pre-fills diagnostics; every receipt has its own report button with consent to attach the photo and the parsed result.
  • Family pairing diagnostics. Verification errors carry a stable support code (E1–E11).

2.1.7 — August 2026

  • New App Store name: "ReceiptIQ: AI Receipt Scanner". Searching "ReceiptIQ" finds the app again.
  • Spending chart legend: top categories as colour dot and name; tap a row to highlight its slice.
  • Family sync at your fingertips: pull to refresh starts a quiet sync; family users get a "Last sync" pill in the top bar.
  • Cleaner top bar: the iCloud "Sync Off" pill is hidden unless sync is on.

2.1.6 — August 2026

  • Audit-ready PDF reports. One tap exports a summary with per-category breakdown, a receipts index, and every scanned receipt on its own page as proof. Built for a subscriber's audit.
  • The app asks about ambiguous dates. "8/9/2026" can mean Aug 9 or Sep 8. The app resolves what it can from the receipt and asks once when it truly cannot tell, then remembers the answer for that store.

2.1.0 — June 2026

  • Family Sharing. One subscription, up to four devices. Receipts, categories, budgets and photos sync phone to phone over the same Wi-Fi, never through a server. Announcement and how it works.
