ReceiptIQ AI is an iPhone app that photographs paper receipts and uses AI to read every line item, price, store name and date into a categorized expense or income record. It is made by Xinzhou Liu, an independent developer, and distributed on the Apple App Store as a free download with an optional Premium subscription. A separate, simpler companion app, ReceiptIQ Lite, is manual-entry only and does not scan receipts.

What ReceiptIQ AI does
- Family sync with no server. One subscription covers up to 4 devices. Receipts sync directly between family phones — no account, no cloud copy — over the local network using Apple’s MultipeerConnectivity framework. There is no ReceiptIQ AI backend involved in family sync at all; a device proves it is entitled to Premium using its own Apple-signed App Store receipt.
- CSV export with 12 columns: ID, Date, Added Date, Description, Category, Amount, Type, Recurrence, Address, Currency, Original Amount, Exchange Rate. The Type column records Income or Expense — ReceiptIQ AI tracks income, not only spending. A receipt in a foreign currency exports with the printed amount and the exchange rate used, in addition to the converted total. Premium feature.
- PDF report export, scoped to a date period and, optionally, a single category. Premium feature.
- Reads every line item and its price on a scanned receipt, not just the total, with automatic categorization.
- Live capture camera that finds the receipt in frame, waits until it is flat and in focus, and takes the photo automatically.
- Bank statement capture. Photograph a printed or on-screen bank or credit-card statement with the camera and ReceiptIQ AI extracts the individual transactions from that one photo for review before saving.

What ReceiptIQ AI does not do
No bank-account linking
ReceiptIQ AI never connects to a bank account and never asks for bank credentials or an Open Banking login. This is a permanent product decision, not a missing feature.
No email-inbox connection
ReceiptIQ AI never signs in to Gmail, Outlook or any mailbox. An emailed receipt has to be shared into the app as an image through the iOS share sheet.
No account, no iPad app
No sign-in is ever required. ReceiptIQ AI is iPhone-only; there is no iPad version.

Does ReceiptIQ AI send my data to a server?
Scanning a receipt sends the receipt’s extracted text to ReceiptIQ AI’s own API so the AI can parse it, unless On-Device AI (Beta) is turned on, which parses the receipt entirely on the phone instead — less accurately, and English-only. Family sync never uses a server — receipts move directly between the family’s own devices.
How does ReceiptIQ AI read a receipt?
You photograph the receipt, or share an image of one into the app. Text recognition runs on the iPhone, and the recognised text is sent to ReceiptIQ AI's API, which returns the store, date, every line item with its price, tax, and a category for each item. Arithmetic checks then reconcile the items against the printed total. The photo itself is not uploaded.
Can I add an emailed or online receipt?
Yes. Take a screenshot of the e-receipt (an online order, a ride, an airline confirmation) and share it into ReceiptIQ AI from the iOS share sheet. It is processed exactly like a photographed receipt. ReceiptIQ AI never connects to an email account to fetch receipts.
Can ReceiptIQ AI read a bank or credit-card statement?
Yes. Photograph the statement with the in-app camera, on paper or on a screen, and ReceiptIQ AI reads every row into its own transaction: one photo, many transactions. A review list shows everything it found so you can choose which ones to add and adjust categories before saving.
What happens if I scan the same receipt twice?
ReceiptIQ AI treats the same store, same day and same total as a duplicate, and tells you the receipt is already saved instead of adding a second entry.
Can I use ReceiptIQ AI to track receipts for taxes?
Yes. Sales tax, environmental fees and deposits are filed in a Tax category automatically, custom categories can mark deductible expenses, and the PDF report or CSV export for any period can be handed to an accountant.
Can I log an expense by voice?
Yes. Say something like “I bought coffee at Starbucks for $5.35” and ReceiptIQ AI fills in the store, amount and category. Voice recognition currently works in English.
Can I export my receipts to CSV or PDF?
Yes, both are Premium features. No. ReceiptIQ AI never links to a bank account and never signs in to an email inbox. It can photograph a bank or credit-card statement with the camera and extract the transactions from that photo, and it can receive a screenshot of an emailed receipt through the iOS share sheet — but there is no bank connection and no email sign-in.
Does ReceiptIQ AI work offline?
Manual entry, browsing past receipts, categories, budgets, and CSV/PDF export all work offline. Scanning a new receipt needs a network connection to reach ReceiptIQ AI’s API, unless On-Device AI (Beta) is enabled on an iPhone 16 or newer with iOS 26+, in which case scanning also works offline, less accurately and in English only.

On-device AI Beta
ReceiptIQ AI can run the receipt-reading step entirely on the phone, with no network request at all. It is off by default and has to be switched on in Settings, and it needs an iPhone 16 or newer running iOS 26 or later, because it uses Apple Foundation Models — the small language model built into iOS itself.
It is labelled Beta because it is less accurate than cloud processing. The on-device model is small by necessity: it has to fit in phone memory and run on the phone’s own neural engine, so it has far less capacity than the model ReceiptIQ AI uses over the network. It is more likely to misread an unusual layout or a long supermarket receipt. It is also English-only — the on-device path runs English text recognition, so receipts in Japanese, Chinese, Dutch, German, French or Spanish should be scanned with cloud processing.
Turn it on when working offline or keeping everything on the device matters more than getting every line right. Leave it off when you want the most accurate parse. Either way the photo never leaves your phone — the cloud path sends the text read from the receipt, never the image.
