PDF Expense Reports: Audit-Ready Receipts in One Tap

August 24, 2026 4 min read Announcement

"The auditor doesn't want a spreadsheet. They want to see the receipts." That's the request — from a ReceiptIQ subscriber preparing for an audit — that shaped the headline feature of ReceiptIQ 2.1.6: PDF expense reports. One tap now produces a single, professional document containing your expense summary and every scanned receipt, ready to hand to an auditor, an accountant, or your company's finance team.

One Document, Three Parts

Every report is structured the way audit workflows actually expect:

  1. Summary page — the reporting period, receipt count, total expenses and income, and a breakdown by category, largest first.
  2. Receipt index — every transaction in chronological order with date, store, category, and amount. Each row lists the exact page where that receipt's scan appears, so anyone reviewing the report can jump straight from a line item to its proof.
  3. The receipts themselves — every scanned receipt on its own page, full size, with the store, date, and amount printed above it. When someone asks "can you show me the original?", the answer is already in their hands.

Numbers-only exports leave you assembling photo attachments by hand the night before a deadline. A report that carries its own evidence doesn't.

Built for Audits, Taxes, and Reimbursements

Pick a period — last month, last quarter, or the full year — and the report covers exactly that range. A year of receipts becomes one chronological, indexed binder: hundreds of pages, perfectly ordered, generated in seconds. Use it for:

  • Tax season — deductible expenses with the receipt evidence attached, in one file.
  • Business audits — the summary satisfies the overview question; the scan pages satisfy the "show me" question.
  • Expense reimbursements — send your finance team one PDF instead of a spreadsheet plus twenty photos.
  • Your own records — a yearly archive you can store anywhere, readable forever, no app required.

Generated Entirely on Your iPhone

True to how ReceiptIQ works everywhere else: the report is rendered entirely on your device. Your receipts and images never touch a server to become a PDF. When the document is ready, the standard share sheet opens — save it to Files, AirDrop it to your Mac, or send it wherever it needs to go.

How to Use It

  1. Open Settings → Data Export.
  2. Choose your date range — 1 month, 3 months, or 1 year.
  3. Tap Export PDF Report.

That's it. The familiar CSV export is still right beside it for spreadsheet workflows — the two formats complement each other. Both are included with every ReceiptIQ subscription.

Also in This Update: Smarter Receipt Dates

Receipts are printed by machines with opinions. Is "5/6/2026" the 5th of June or the 6th of May? Different stores answer differently, and guessing wrong used to mean a receipt quietly filed under the wrong date.

ReceiptIQ 2.1.6 stops guessing. When a printed date could be read two ways, the app resolves it with logic — a date in the future can't be right, a day above 12 settles the order — and it learns how each store prints its dates, so one answered question fixes every future receipt from that store. In the rare case where nothing settles it, ReceiptIQ does something we think more apps should do: it asks you, once, with both readings spelled out. Your answer is remembered.

That last part reflects a principle a longtime user articulated better than we ever had: a system that hits a problem, solves it, and tells you — or asks you to confirm — is a system you can trust. Expect more of ReceiptIQ to work this way.
